College preparation can be a confusing time for some students as many don't know what should be done in order to prepare for their continued schooling.
The thing to keep in mind is when preparing to go to school is there are two major tests that most universities and colleges across the nation use to assist in determining whether or not a student should be admitted into their school.
One such test is the SAT exam.
The SAT, otherwise known as S-A-T used to be called the Scholastic Aptitude Test and Scholastic Assessment Test. However, it is now called the SAT Reasoning Test. The Educational Testing Service or ETS develops, publishes and scores the SAT exam and it is administered by the College Board which is a private company. Although the SAT is available worldwide for any interested international countries or parties, most countries outside of the U.S. have their own standardized tests.
The SAT consists of three sections: Reading, Math and Writing. It also consists of other subject tests such as Literature, Science, English, History, Languages and Mathematics. Testing is offered several times annually and students must register in advance. There is a fee associated with registration.
There are several college test preparation resources available to help prepare for the SAT. A guidance counselor or a public library are good places to start checking as well as searching the internet for college test prep aids and courses.
Another test is the ACT exam.
Also known as the ACT Assessment and produced by ACT, it is an standardized achievement test for college entrance.
The ACT began in 1959 and competes with the SAT exam. Like the SAT test, the testing sections are very similar although it has been revised over time. Most schools and universities accept both the SAT and ACT.
There are some minor differences between the SAT and ACT. |
